2005 SL600 Wood Steering wheel and shifter buttons
When you order the SL600 with the AMG Sports package it says you get fingertip shift contols on the steering wheel.
I have this on my SL55 which has an all black leather steering wheel with the shifters on the back.
I have seen pictures of new 2005 SL600's with Sport packages and they have the wooden steering wheel. Are the shifter buttons still located on the steering wheel?
In other words, do the 2005 SL600's with sport packages come with shifter buttons on the back of a WOODEN steering wheel?
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not believe so. The "Speed Shift" buttons are exclusive to the AMG car like the SL55.

This is not what the SL brochure nor the Mercedes Benz web site state. Both of them state that with the Sports Package on the 2005 SL600 you do get the shifter buttons.
Are you saying the website and brochure are not correct?

My SL65 has the buttons on the wheel, but as Wings said, I was under the impression that It was only an AMG thing.
I've had an SL600 prior to my current SL, and a 55AMG before it, but as it was an early '04 modle, I doubt I will be any help to you.
The website is normally a reliable source however.

Re: 2005 SL600 Wood Steering wheel and shifter buttons
I checked the website and it does mention "steering wheel buttons with the AMG Option Package. Maybe this is a change from 04, new for 05? Interestingly when you click on "Details" on the AMG Package it does not mention the steering wheel shift buttons??
BTW, I have them on my S55 and after a couple of months of playing around with them you forget that they are there and really just use the transmission either in C mode or S mode. I think those are how the 2 selections are referred to. I kind of forget because with the SL600 the labeling is a little different I believe? Maybe I will just go to the garage and take a look. For me though, I would not miss those buttons at all.

I am on another forum and there is a person with a 2005 SL600 with a sports package and he confirmed that his car does in fact have the shifters. I do believe this is a change for 2005. When you get the sports package you have to delete the heated steering wheel but since I live in California I didn't see that as a problem.
Finally made up my mind. Aegean Blue, all Black interior, with AMG sports package. Can't wait.

Did you see the spy pictures showing a new nose on the SL's? There is a post on MBWorld.org and it clearly shows a SL with the SLR/SLK nose.
I am going to be one pissed off Mercedes Benz owner if they change the style that much anytime soon.

Looked all over MBworld but couldn't find the pictures. Any chance of you posting them here?

One thing that really dissapoints me about MB is that they are taking away what ever exclusivity we had with the SL. They are taking features from their top of the line cars and giving it to the lower priced cars.
Take the new 350. Looks like an SL if you look at it close and they put the SLR nose on it! Most likely you will see the SLR nose on the SL, just a matter of time IMO. This is why this is probably going to be my last SL.

You can buy a new SL. The change in the nose is not happening.
