How long till i should...

Ive had my Z now for 5 months and i was wondering whens a good time to take her into the beauty shop, the paint is starting to take on some mysterious scratches and paint is starting to look strangly odd...it looks like my paint has water marks all over it but i always dry my car very well when i wash it and usually it works but just recenty this has started happening...so im wondering if its just the paint and that maybe she needs to goto the beauty shop (detailing ect.). well what do you guys think? (i have 2004 350z AT Touring)

Use a good wax after every wash. A 2004 Z shouldn't need paint til atleast 2014.

lol...definitely wax it or get it waxed. you can always take it to a detail shop to wax it or buff out minor scratches.

Hi Mr.350Z,

Thank you for your reply to my question. As of right now, I am asking the auto dealer that I bought my new Z from for a new car. I don't want a brand new car that is partially or totally repainted. I definatly have some paint issues that have come from the factory. I think the guy at the paint shop said it was called "Chemical Pop" or something to that effect. Apparently if everything isn't mixed right when it is applied, chemicals keep releasing from below the paint and/or clear coat layers. On some days I am even hard pressed to be able to point the immperfections out. But if you are in the right light, you can see hundereds of them all over the car.

So we'll see what will happen. I am hoping to hear from the manager of the service dept. next week some time with an answer or update as to what is happening with my claim.

You may want to have someone at a quality paint shop take a look at your car before you have it waxed. You may have something similar wrong with your car. They have special lights that they use so that they can see things.

Take Care,

Ewww... that sucks. Sorry to hear that fellas. For people with minor imperfections, a good buff, then wax will give you that showroom shine. Most dealers don't do a "real" detail job when the car is delivered.

I would take it to the best auto painter in town and ask him for his opinion and if he has some doubts let him do a small test in a area that don't show. If in his opinion the paint job is bad demand a new paint job, and you'll get a much better paint job than a factory job.

I believed that there is no aftermarket paint job is better than factory. The reasons for these are paint at the factory is bake on at a very high temperature which aftermaket paint could not have done. This is due to components on the car that cannot withstand high temerature. The film thickness is pretty well even through the whole car because they are painted by robots that are program to have the same distances everytime. The amount of fluid, atom air and fan air are all controlled by PLC which are the same on every car (same color car). Different color have different thickness and settings due to viscosity. MR350Z, if I remember it correctly your car is blue so your film thickness is about 1.2-1.4 mils of base and 1.5-1.8 mils of clear. If your base is greater than this number, you will have solvent popping. This is cause due to insufficient drying time before the clear is aplied. This is a factory defect, you can get the manufacture to pay for the repair.

Not saying your wrong, but I've seen some REALLY nice paint jobs on some show cars. One of mine was stripped to metal primed then painted. 20 coats and rubbed twice, then 10 coats of clear pearl rubbed between every 2 coats. Looks pretty good. Maybe won't last as long as a factory job, but appearence wise looks better than factory.
