98rodeo still stalling after alot of repairs- NUTS!frodiggs 10-07-2004, 01:21 PM 97k. in good cond. 1.cold start- very low idle or no start due to low idle 2.very rarely- while driving low idle stalls out 3.sometimes idles @ 2500 rpm then goes down slowly 4.today would not start, had to rev and throw into gear to get going and had to floor it to move. the engine did not rev high but i felt like the handbrake was on. no power well went to what I felt was the best honest repair shop in the area: 1. replaced 3 IMG gaskets 2. new ngk laser plats 3. cleaned EGR (very dirty) [produced CEL previously] 4. hand clean intake ports 5. motorvac fuel clean service 6. clean carbon and varnish from fuel line and throttle body assembly, intake valve and combustion areas any direction is appreciated. newb and too busy to DIY and want to direct mechanic a bit to avoid $$. Car is in shop again... thanks ps- looking at - Fuel Pressure Regulator, mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor, air intake sensor, catalytic converter clogging 86TATpi 10-07-2004, 05:50 PM Have them look at the crank position sensor also. frodiggs 10-07-2004, 06:28 PM right, actually the shop called and said the carbon residue from the clean was floating around. not sure where but i guess intake and fuel system. hopefully i'm all set but i'lll make note. rodeo02 10-07-2004, 08:06 PM What OBDII codes are you getting? Have you replaced the fuel pressure regulator? G/luck Joel frodiggs 10-08-2004, 11:12 AM no codes and EPROM was clear when they looked at it initially. mech said there was alot of carbon on a particular component, maybe fuel regulator. i don;t recall what he said as it was sooo early in the am and I had along train journey to get to the shop so i had major brain fog at the time. seems to be running alot better. i'll get the specifics later. Thanks for all the support! tomlcollins 10-08-2004, 11:21 AM Your EGR system was clogged with carbon again, they probably didn't clean the system sufficiently the first time. frodiggs 10-08-2004, 04:51 PM I was thinking the same thing on the way home. It was not the EGR, (as i was told) the mech mentioned another component, similar to the fuel regulator- can't recall. I'm not a mechanic at all but I knew the fuel was lean and the engine was not getting enough fuel somehow. they mentioned the following still needs work: oil coming out timing base cover- cam seal/crankshaft leaking, replace timing belt, new water pump, new tensioner whats the normal cost on this ?
