Angry engine problems

Has anyone come across engine problems with the 2004 Colorado? I had the check engine light come on and brought the truck to the dealer. They just called and told me that they PULLED THE HEAD off and are investigating the valves. I have 30K miles on a truck that was bought new in March 2004. It had a cracked spark plug and has valve stem wear. I have used Mobile 1 synthetic oil from day one and change it every 5000 miles.

Follow Up

The dealer just called... the sent my Colorado's head out to be rebuilt instead of replacing it. The exhaust valves and guides were worn out along with a cracked spark plug. They are scratching their heads. A GM mechanic friend of mine suggested that they look to see if the catalytic converter is plugged. At 30K miles since March 2004 I have one of the highest milage Colorado's they have seen. Anyone have any other ideas??

Re: engine problems

You change the oil every 5,000 miles? Last I knew, 3,000 was reccomended. But even bad oil wouldn't cause that, no oil, maybe. The only idea I have is don't buy anything the first few years of production.

Re: engine problems

Mobil 1 synthetic oil at 5000 miles, I'd not expect to see any wear in that engine. This doesn't look good for these engines, have heard of problems with valve springs before, this is getting serious. Consider that if the warranty had expired, this would be big chunk of money out of your pocket.

Re: engine problems

if you had a bad plug' that would cause trouble of that sort. there is alot of pressure in the combustion chamber. if the plug is not igniting, i imagine there would be stem damage.

Check the timing. 30k on synthetic oil. Should be running like a champ. i got 106k on my s 10, all synthetic miles, runs great. Thats why i usually dont buy a vehicle the first couple years of production. anyway good luck
