i registered and ran my car through. then i asked for a refund since it just said who owned my car before and miles and whatnot. no crashes or whatever. and they gave me my money back too ;)

Here's the thing. The car I bought has been in a bad accident, the people straight up told me and there was a new trunk welded in. They did it through insurance. Carfax does not have it listed. That is a biggie. I still believe a lot in carfax, but...

really? my car was an attempted theft i had to shell out about 3 large to get it all fixed because of the number they did on my door, steering column, and windows.

Yeah, I think carfax should really be relied on for sniffing out salvage titles, but accident titles just don't show up all that often. In the 45 cars I looked up only 2 had accidents listed and only 4 had failed emissions listings. I really think those numbers seem low. Still the really important thing is the salvage title.
