Real VW GTi Owners & Enthusiasts *read*01 GTi 1.8T 09-28-2004, 01:35 AM I would like to know who the real GTi owners in this forum are and hopefully people who have modded them or are wanting to mod them. I want meet some good (aka. mature) people who own mkIV's and mkV's so we can talk and share thoughts, tips, and information about our own and other GTi's without having some kids blabbing on about their ficticious cars and how they think they can beat other cars. I have a gallery with pictures of my car, I'm hoping you have a gallery of yours's as well. Not only for proof of credibility but because I love Volkswagen GTi's. I want to see what other people are doing to theirs or hear what they are thinking of doing to them. OR If you are one of these people and know of a better VW GTi enthusiast forum, please let me know! *only real VW enthusiasts need apply* Thanks, Dave ice_rr 09-29-2004, 12:20 AM hey man i just my gti vr6 today! if you really want to see what people have done to their car its best for you to go to http://www.cardomain.com/ i did the same thing.. you will get some good ideas from them! ill try to post some pictures of my car when i get the car in to my drive way! later! Slick13 09-29-2004, 01:24 PM TBH the mkivs and vs are just shopping trollies, the real GTIs are the mk1s and 2s. I own a mk2 and there is not a car that can match up to it in driving fun and pure driving ability. Now all you people are going to quote BHP figures and how quick you can get to 60 can leave now. A real enthusiast is someone that knows about the engines, chassis, and whole package of the car, not someone that bangs on plastic tat body kits and says its got 8million bhp because of it. I have rebuilt the engine on mine and sorted out the chassis too. I consider myself a enthusisat because i appreciate the car in its origional state and what it can achive not what it can look like with bits of plastic stuck on. 01 GTi 1.8T 09-29-2004, 01:39 PM Thanks for the link ice_rr I have rebuilt the engine on mine and sorted out the chassis too. I consider myself a enthusisat because i appreciate the car in its origional state and what it can achive not what it can look like with bits of plastic stuck on. Slick13 ... the last thing I want to do is make my GTi look "ricer", with a bunch of ugly plastic. I'm tuning my engine first, my suspension is done already for performance handling. My car is about performance first, looks last. Eventually it will be a show quality car, but I will never make it look tacky. I'm glad your happy with you mk2, btw put up some pics, i'd love to see what you've done with your mk2. Have a look at my gallery check out my car, so far... its all engine mods from here on. Untill thats all done I won't be putting money into cosmetic parts. Check out the red GTi in my gallery, that is a sweet ride. Dave Slick13 09-29-2004, 01:44 PM Fair play to you then if you are just sticking with engine mods and not going down the rice route. Tbh with the later mks of golf i would leave them as they are and just change things like lights (NOT LEXUS STYLE) and wheels. If you keep your car as a sleeper then you will get a lot less attention from theives and more from the real car enthusuasts, its more about subtle styling than balls out customisation. Also if its left nearly standard then you can surprise a good few people when you take it down the strip or do some track days. Slick13 09-29-2004, 02:00 PM My Car being set up at a rolling road place http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/Slick13/DSCF0010.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/Slick13/DSCF0006.jpg Touching the roller surround http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/Slick13/DSCF0009.jpg After Just being washed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/Slick13/Fullfrontal.jpg Standard engine bay after being rebuilt. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/Slick13/Engine.jpg 01 GTi 1.8T 09-29-2004, 06:04 PM Nice little ride, I like those old models, nice clean engine in there too, nice job. My car isn't made for the same type of driving yours is, it's basically street and highway. I bet you could take yours down some bumpy roads and a nice speed if you wanted to. A friend of mine has a nice little mk3 GTi, she left it stock, and it looks very nice. I'll get a couple pics of it to put up on here the next time she washes it. Slick13 09-29-2004, 06:18 PM no chance down a bumpy road, it hits bottom on nearly everything seeing as it has been lowered 60mm and the sump only has 60mm clearance from the floor, i can take it down twisties if the road is smooth, and will go round corners like a go kart. Its going to be rebuilt again next summer this time pushing the BHP up 200. Lowered and stiffened some more and stripped out aswell. Should be fun. 01 GTi 1.8T 09-29-2004, 11:11 PM Ahhh your lowered, I couldn't tell.. see my friends GTi isn't lowered at all, she could cruise down a bumpy road if she wanted to. I'm at about the same height as you from the ground, i've bottomed a couple times, but i have an 86 GMC Jimmy 4x4 for the dirt and snow. It's a hog. I'll get a pic, it's blue and white. Vin.ZNT 09-30-2004, 04:36 PM http://www.sportcompactracing.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=93 that is the best place for GTI owners 1.8T or VR6 second www.vwvortex.com mostly jerks there, all they say is "search search search!!!" and are very biased club18T is the best (the first link) go there my username is the same 01 GTi 1.8T 10-01-2004, 03:21 AM Excellent, thanks Vin. Much appreciated, i will see you there. gti1689 10-01-2004, 09:15 PM take a look at my sig, i have a 2001 gti vr6, if ne one has more questions i would be happy to answer them *see sig for cardomain link aggv 10-16-2004, 03:21 PM I have 98 VR with a vortech, does that count? edspecR 10-30-2004, 03:38 PM www.vwvortex.com mostly jerks there, all they say is "search search search!!!" and are very biased first off, i'd like to defend the largest vw forum in the world. they only say "search search search" when the topic you post has already been posted and discussed to all hell before. since the forums are so huge, no one wants to post wat they've already said twice. they are very biased cuz euro car owners are very biased. think about it, your asked "which car is faster, a bimmer or a 350z" the answer may be arguable (how many mods, etc) but everyone from a EUROPEAN CAR OWNERS FORUM will most likely answer the bimmer... i wonder why.... and yes there are jerks there, but welcome to the real world. and all the other vw forums and stuff are all gonna have guys from the tex on there, so your still drawing answers from the same resource pool, except your just doing it through a middleman. anyway, here's my car (in a state of repair). pics are bout... 5 months old, since then, ive repaired the fender, put in projector HIDs, oettinger sides, filled the nasty holes up front, chipped it (revo), ... and i thnk thats it. at home: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/IMAG0004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/IMAG0009.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/IMAG0010.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/IMAG0014.jpg at the gas station: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/my_car_at_a_gas_station_2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/my_car_at_a_gas_station_1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/my_car_at_a_gas_station_3.jpg yay... and she celebrated her 1st bday on oct. 26, so i gave her a present (HID projectors :) ) sorry for the long post (and flame suit on) 1.8turbo_racer 11-03-2004, 12:48 AM I'm new here so I don't have any pics of my car..I'll soon have them... Well i have 3 tv's in my black 2004 gti 1.8t... Sony in the dash and 2 in the head rest..2 12 ma audio woofer and a 1000 watt punch and 800 orion.. I got a magna flow exhuast and my piping to my cadillac converter...I have an aem cold air intake and a jet ecu upgrade chip....I love how my intake sounds..=)... I'm ganna get new cam gears and get twin turbo in my car.... Thats all...I'll have pics asap for those who care.. aggv 11-03-2004, 01:55 PM Hey, u know your plate is covering alot of where your air intake draws air from???? Id suggest moving it to middle, cause the pass. side vent is the intercooler. edspecR 11-03-2004, 11:59 PM the plate doesn't block anything. yes i have a cold air intake, and the filter draws air from that same area, but if you seriouly think that the plate's drawing air directly from those vents, then you've been influenced way too much by... outside sources (not to mention movies/etc) on the other hand, if i was a competition racer, then i'd do everything to free up air, but then that wouldn't matter for me cuz then i wouldn't be running a CAI (definately not) anyway, my point is, that if the license plate was blocking all the air to the filter, then it'd create a vacuum in that little compartment that the filter's in, so it'd draw air in anyway. dont believe me? fluid dynamics. there isn't anything covering the bottom of the car, meaning the air inside the fender thats blocked by the plate will have still, calm air inside. easier for the cai to draw air from. the air flowing under the car is obviously running faster than the air inside the fender, which would create a vacuum in the fender, which would cause it to draw air from other openings (ie the huge gaping, ginormous one in the center of the bumper) so voila, plate doesn't matter. besides, the black inserts that go into the bumpers would be blocking the air anyway. people who take those out make me laugh :) aggv 11-05-2004, 06:04 PM I was just trying to be helpful, calm down. edspecR 11-06-2004, 12:52 PM sorry i get grumpy... :( Vin.ZNT 11-11-2004, 12:43 AM I am not a middleman, I learn, and then I tell others what I learnt if they asked I even posted up links to invite people there, showing them where I learn the things, it's not like I am taking all the credits why so mad? :shrugs: how long did it take you to do the JTI conversion, pretty clean I prefer Getta more though, if I must do a conversion edspecR 11-11-2004, 03:43 PM sounds like im pissing everyone off.... took me about an hour to convert... then another 3 hours to install the angel eyes i had in my front end into the dudes getta (i dunno why it took so long for that...) Vin.ZNT 11-12-2004, 05:56 PM I love the angel eyes, it's what I'll do for my GTI when I am looking for a light change I mean, our cars have 2 circular lights each side like the BM, perfect for angel eyes edspecR 11-12-2004, 07:30 PM yup. here's some crappy pics, but m... yeah back in the day: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/5dbd4d37.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/angeleyes.jpg the night before i swapped out: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/aaa798bf.jpg the day after i swapped out: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v188/edspecR/untitled.jpg Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
