Getting more power.GritMaster 09-26-2004, 11:11 PM Okay here's an unusual case... (I think) I have a 1979 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. 425ci Carbuerated. rated at 180 HP 320 lb/ft torque. I'd like to try and open it up and get more power and torque, I know the engine is capable of it, I just don't really know what should be done. I'm getting a custom exhaust made and since I don't need emissions anymore (25 yrs old) I'm going to get it as free flowing as possible. This should help some, But I'm sure there's more I can do. Don't tell me to sell the car and buy something new I wanna do this just because it'd be different. I really didn't know where to post this but I figured people in here might know there stuff so maybe it was a good place to start. Anyhow any ideas are welcome (except for me to sell the car) Thanks in advance. civickiller 09-27-2004, 03:04 AM theres alot of stuff you can do, get higher comp pistons, get new heads that flow better, get a bigger cam, get a more high flow intake manifold, get a bigger carb. first i woudl start out simple, free flwoing intake filter, liek a k&n filter, headers, more free flowing exhaust drdisque 09-27-2004, 10:52 AM first thing I would do is get a bigger carb, the one that thing has on it right now is probably tiny, it will kill any gas mileage you once had though. 94PreludeJDM 09-27-2004, 11:11 AM Get a 6 pack and throw it on there, that'll give you some nice power. crxlvr 09-27-2004, 04:26 PM i agree, anything really can be done with time and money. id start with an aluminum intake manifold as well as a new Carb setup, like a 500cfm or higher, then go with a new high dome piston and camshaft, even a lighter set of pushrods/valves/rockers will free up tons of lost power. I don't worry about it really, I get 8 or lower as is soo what's a few less gonna hurt? :P Now to look for stuff that fits :) 383PhoenixAm 09-27-2004, 08:37 PM After the simple modifications have been done..headers, air element, etc., I would go and look at the compression. From what I've heard those cars had pretty low compression. Changing heads would make a world of difference, but you could also just deck the stock surfaces to get a little more compression, if needed, anyway. Next thing would be cam. This is going on a guess that you don't want to pull the engine from the car and rebuild.
