Has anyone out there besides me (actually my wife!) experienced complete and total tread seperation on a BFG Long-Trail T/A??? By the grace of God tonight, my wife was able to bring our 96 Tahoe under control after tossing ALL of the tread free of hte carcass on a LT245-75R16 on the right rear. I want some satisfaction as I don't agree my insurance company should have to pay for this type of damage to the truck (which my wife says looks a lot like a Winston Cup car after tossing a tire!).

Any similar experiences? This will be my last BFG tires as long as I can control it!!!

I have seen it happen to a BFG all terrain, but not a Long Trail. Also, it didn't really throw ALL of it's tread and the tire was quite bald by my standards when it happened. I'm on my third set of BFG all-terrains on my third truck(a dodge, a tahoe, and a silvy) never had one problem with the all terrains except that they are no longer an original looking tire as every truck in town has them.
You could have just had a bad tire. Have you tried taking it to a BFG dealer for free replacement? Every tire I have ever seen blown has been replaced by the tire manufacturer.

......oh wait, you mean the tire did body damage? I'd seek reimbursement from the tire company. After all the Firestone mess I'd imagine they might cooperate with a little pushing.

FYI BFG is a subsidiary of Michelin... and I haven't heard anything like this...

Typically if there is a defect in the tire AND it is under the reccomended mileage for that specific tire you should be able to go to the place where you purchased (and should have had install them as well) the tires, they should be able to replace the damaged tire and work something out with BFG to repair the damage on your vehicle...

As for the last time you'll ever buy BFG tires again, consider your options... Michelin is the same company, Firestone/Bridgestone is not really a good replacement due to their history of SUV tires (I don't give a dang WHAT vehicle they're on)... after that you've got what, Wrangler Uniroyal and maybe a bunch of small time tires.

Don't be so hasty. I'm sure that no company has ever done 100% right ever. (Even GM came out with the Aztec)

I have had the long trails on my 98 2 dr for 60k and they are just now getting close to the wear bars. They have been driven really hard and have been great tires for me. I would buy them again in a second. Sorry to hear about tour experiance, and very glad no body was hurt. I havn`t heard of anybody else having problems with the tires, maybe you just got a bad one. If you find something better post it for the rest of us.

The problem with Firestone SUV tires was FORD's fault!!! They set the pressure too low, after repeated request by Firestone to increase to proper pressure. Notice the problems were on FORDS and mostly on hot roads in the south at high speeds. Bridgestone/Firestone makes excellent tires.

good luck paint pro!, you can make a cliam on your policy for this damage, and it wont count against you, because this is considered a comprhensive claim. it would be subject to your deductible, and you can ask your insurer to subrogate the claim. in other words, transfer the responsibility of collecting for the damage to the ins company. when your ins co collects, they are then obligated to refund to you your deductible. soemtimes they will just write it off as tire mfg are very large companies and have deep pockets, none the less, they reresent you. if you are not satisfied with thier response, you can contact your state's dept of ins and file a complaint for lack of action. so, good luck.
