gas economy on 96 f-150lightin rod 09-16-2004, 11:22 PM ok my brither has a 96 f-150 with the 5.0 engine and it has a performance cam in it as of recent the gas milage has fallin off a cliff he replaced the fuel filter and that helped a little but it is gutless. the codes in the computer say the egr is junk but i dont know if the cam is messin with that cause it idles rough. it has a slight shudder in the trans that might be part of it im goin to change that this weekend and see what you guys have to say and take that into consideration. it has over 150,000 miles on it it might just need the injectors cleaned and a tune up but i dont know. Any thoughts? ModMech 09-17-2004, 10:16 AM Poor economy may be related to bad/worn oxygen sensors (assuming they don't read right). If fuel is being dumped in for some other reason, new O2s won't help at all. A bad plug wire is a common cause for both shudder and economy concerns. I'd start there. Check to see what trans you have, if a AODE/4R70W make SURE you use ONLY ATF that says Mercon V on the bottle, or your shudder will get much worse. lightin rod 09-17-2004, 06:34 PM ok ill look into that Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
