alternator help

Hey i have a 1993 Mazda 626 ES V6 and i have been getting a small but noticable problem. Everytime i stop the rear light comes on and the charge battery light comes on. I checked the rear lights but none of them are burned out. The problem is probably my alternator because a day before my battery died in my car so i think the alternator isnt working to charge my battery.
Thats my problem if you have any other solutions please post.
Also do you know what kin of car i can get an alternator out of besides a 626/Probe/mx-6 car.
Thanks.
