Re: ENGINE Swap

if you are going from a 2.2 to a v6 you should just go to the v8. It is the same amount of work and you get a bigger engine. if you play your cards right, and get a carbarated motor and then do it by yourself without a mechanic... you could do the v8 swap for $1000-1500!! so i would jump on that boat. You will need a tranny also with the engine. Then get the kit off the internet that includes a radiator, the frame mounts, the headers, and the book... HAPPY SWAPPING!!!

Re: ENGINE Swap

don't argue with him, he is completely right.

A V8 swap will be more fuel efficient seeing if won't have to work as hard as the V6.

If you are swapping up from a 4 banger, go V8.

It is cheaper, more power for the money and has a lot more potential than any blown V6.

You need to listen to people who know what they are talking about instead of arguing when they give you proper advice.

Re: ENGINE Swap

There is a manual to do this on Ebay and online, search through google for V8 s10 guide.

Trust me, you will be doing the same work for a V6 that you will be doing for a V8.

Make it count so you won't be disappointed.

Re: ENGINE Swap

You Guys Are Right A V8 Will Be More Fuel Efficient Than A 4 Cyl But You Are Failing To Tell S-10kid That The Rear Diff Gearing Will Have To Be Lowered. Since The V8 Has More Power You Want To Lower The Gearing So It Brings The Rpm Down. The 4 Cyl Gearing Is Higher Because It Has Less Torque. If You Were To Keep The 4 Cyl Gearing And Drop In A 8 Cyl. For Exampe: Say The 4 Cyl Is Geared At 60mph To Have An Rpm Of 3000rpm (in Top Trans Gear Only) If You Drop In A V8 Well Then Your Rpm Will Be At ~3000rpm At 60mph And That Will Definetly Drain Into Your Fuel Costs. You Will Need To Lower The Rear Diff Gear Or Obtain A Tranny That Can Drop That 60mph Rpm To ~1500rpm. If Your Purchasing A Aftermarket Modified Tranny Then They Will Most Likely Ask You What Gearing You Want In It. If Your Purchasing A Used Stock Tranny Then Your Restricted To That Trannies Gearing Unless You Change It Yourself. Try And Get As Close To 1500 Rpm At 60mph As Possible Otherwise You Gas Mileage Will Be Affected Drastically. Good Luck!

Re: ENGINE Swap

True, I honestly think s-10 is WAY over his head on this.

Too much highly technical engine and body work for someone with limited knowledge.

Not being rude, just being honest.

Re: ENGINE Swap

This Is Not Any Easy Swap S-10kid. There Is Mechanical And Electrical Skills Involved. Basic Hand Tools Might Be Able To Get It Done But Your Going To Want Air Tools And Other Specailaty Tools To Get The Job Done Quicker And Easier. If You Dont Have At Least 2 Out Of 3 Of These Things I Have Mentioned I Would Not Attempt. I Would Recommend Trying To Find A Turbo Kit That Bolts Up With No Modifications. I Am Assuming You Can R&r Parts. A Turbo 4 Cylinder Will Give You => Power Than A 6 Cylinder. Good Luck!

Re: ENGINE Swap

It's not so much the putting it together.

The big problem is diagnosing a problem and fixing it if something isn't right after the install.
