'99 Tahoe Left rear turn signal

My left rear turn signal is out. I have replaced the bulb twice to no avail. I get the housing off the truck, remove the bulb mount, put in a new bulb and it works fine. However, when I reassemble the housing the lights no longer work. What is the deal with this? It is very annoying. Like I said I have tried two different bulbs, I have cleaned the contacts from the actual bulb seat and the wire harness coming to the unit.

Please help this is frustrating the heck out of me.
