CD player and Cruise Control

My '00 Jimmy is having problems with the CD player. It reads Err when I insert a cd (new or CD-R) it will read it sometimes after the car has been running for a while, I have tried the cd lens cleaning cd with the little brushes, it didn't do anything. Also my cruise control doesn't work. Any suggestions as to what to look into to fix these problems?
