How do you do it?OutdoorBaby 08-27-2004, 08:40 PM I have a 95 grand cherokee laredo 4.0...engine wouldn't start...replaced the battery...ran about a week...now it only cranks strongly (new battery)...but will not turn over...have replaced the coil...need to replace the crank sensor...question is...how in the world?...I have done everything but stand on my head to get that thing out...any suggestions? YtseJam454 08-27-2004, 08:51 PM First of all, it "cranks but will not start", not "cranks but will not turn over" The reason I say this is because people screw that up all the time. Ok now, why are you throwing your $$$ at this thing. What makes you think it's the crank sensor? No spark or injector pulse? Well changing it is pretty easy. Remove the 2 bolts, in some cases it's an inverted torx and unplug it. Now reverse installation. HI, GO FROM UNDERNEATH DRIVERS SIDE NEED 1/4 IN. DRIVE RACHEET , UNIVERSAL ,EXTENSION AND 1/4 IN. DRIVE SOCKET METRIC SOME STANDARD DALE SURE YOU NEED IT OutdoorBaby 08-28-2004, 08:18 PM HI, GO FROM UNDERNEATH DRIVERS SIDE NEED 1/4 IN. DRIVE RACHEET , UNIVERSAL ,EXTENSION AND 1/4 IN. DRIVE SOCKET METRIC SOME STANDARD DALE SURE YOU NEED IT Thank you Dale...I went to Auto Zone...picked up the tools...made it a lot easier to get out...only problem now is that I can't get the hole to line up to get the new one back in...wants to keep going in at an odd angle...have worked on it all day...did, however, get past the point of taking a hammer and busting every window out in it just to get out the frustration...pretty much gotten to the point of calling a tow truck to come and get it...But I do thank you for the advice on tools... YtseJam454 08-28-2004, 08:37 PM Hey be very careful as to not drop anything in the hole where the crank sensor goes. If you drop a bolt for example in there you'd have to pull the trans to get it out! HI,GLAD YOU GOT IT OUT IS IT POSSIBLE THAT YOU CAN GET BOTH BOLTS STARTED IN BY HAND; CAN YOU TELL IF THEY ARE STANDARD THREAD OR METRIC.IF THEY ARE STANDARD THREAD YOU COULD GET 2 OTHER BOLTS A LITTLE LONGER CUT THE HEADS OFF,SCREW THEM IN BY HAND THEN SLIDE THE SENSOR DOWN OVER THEM ,THEN TAKE THE BOLTS OUT ONE AT A TIME AND REPLACE THEM WITH THE WITH THE REGULAR BOLTS . THIS WOULD FREE YOUR HANDS SO YOU COULD GET THEM STARTED RIGHT WITHOUT HOLDING IT IN PLACE. IF YOU WOULD DROP ONE INSIDE TAKE THE TIN PLATE OFF THE FRONT OF BELLHOUSING AND YOU CAN GET IT OUT. SOMEDAYS YOU'RE BETTER OFF STAYING IN BED ,BELIEVE ME DALE jeepman600@aol.com OutdoorBaby 08-28-2004, 08:52 PM Hey be very careful as to not drop anything in the hole where the crank sensor goes. Thanks for the heads up!...have already lost the bolt twice...but just fell on the frame...luckily the sensor was already in place. Dale Aeppli 08-28-2004, 08:59 PM Thanks for the heads up!...have already lost the bolt twice...but just fell on the frame...luckily the sensor was already in place. yes they're a p--- i've tyed strings on them so not to loose them. i'm small so i don't have too much trouble getting in place to work dale jeepman600@aol.com YtseJam454 08-28-2004, 09:05 PM A long extension with a swivel or a wbble on the end does the trick. put the bolt in the socket and wrap tape around it. You'll be able to maneuver the bolt in and slide your socket off once it's in. I've never had one take me more than 10 minutes! Also I tie a piece of mechanics wire around the pigtail so wehn I pull it up it snakes my wire right up to the harness connector. My problem is this...the bolt is wanting to crossthread...I can get both my hands to the sensor bolt to manually start it...have even tried with the extensions and universal...but still wants to crossthread...have been tempted to go ahead and let it crossthread...but I know that's just asking for more trouble...so I took the sensor back out just to see if the bolt would go in the hole without the flange...no problem...but when I put the flange back in place...it want's to start crossthreading again!... By the way...thanks for replying back...it is greatly appreciated. OutdoorBaby 08-29-2004, 08:17 PM Cps In....misson Complete...
