I'm not sure how it is with the Montero Sport, but I had the same problem with my mom's 98 Montero. Where the dash is, around your stereo usually, there should be two screws. Unscrew that and you can take out the plastic piece of the console. Just unscrew the screws holding in the radio and pull it out a bit. The serial number is on top of the radio. You should also get the MR number since they'll be asking for that, too. Again, this is what I did with my mom's 98 Montero. Hopefully it's similar to your car. And, if anything, just ask the guys @ Mitsu how to get to it; they should tell you. Good Luck
