A/C Clutch 2002 Taurusandrewlarson9979 08-23-2004, 10:33 PM My Taurus Has 104,000 miles on it. They A/C stopped working the other day, it started with a quiet rattle under the hood, now it sounds like someone is changling a chain under the hood. Is the Compressor bad, or just the AC Clutch HELP ME!!! sjr8ut 08-26-2004, 04:02 PM If the noise is present whether or not the ac is on, then it could be the clutch bearing. If the noise is only present when the ac is on, then it is most likely something in the compressor. Usually a bad bearing sounds like a loud whine. The pitch will go higher when you rev the engine. Good luck. andrewlarson9979 09-10-2004, 02:27 PM Well the car finally went down. The Pulley locked up snaping the belt off the car. I was told the compressor had locked up, and melted the belt as it went by until it finally broke off. So I am getting it fixed. New Compressor, New Belt, 2 pounds of Freon, and labor =$734.08 WOW! Hope i am not getting rammed! :0 Madcat455 09-10-2004, 10:27 PM That actually sounds about right, Most shops here want at least $600 to put on a compressor, not counting Freon or belts... taxes... etc. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
