'88 528e "cam belt" same as "timing belt"???nowhere man 08-23-2004, 06:25 PM I recently purchased an '88 528e bmw w/ 154,000mi. Under the hood on the air filter box is a sticker indicating the mileage and date at which a "camshaft belt" was replaced, with an illustration of a belt engaging 4 "wheels". Could "camshaft belt" be another name for the timing belt???? Any info would help. Thanks. 4-Door Flunky 08-24-2004, 11:29 AM Yes, a cam belt is a timing belt. Fortunately, the M30 engines have timing chains, and don't need replacement, so I'm off the hook. Your engine is the M20. Flunky nowhere man 08-24-2004, 12:15 PM Thanks Flunky. This will save me a ton of worry. (And some clams too!!) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
