tranny swap?REH626 08-22-2004, 01:49 PM I own an 89' Mazda 626 LX, automatic, no turbo. Tranny may have went out (still checking other possible probs), and I can't find a good used one in any of my local junkyards. Can't afford new or rebuilt right now. I MAY have found a tranny from an 86'...not sure, as motor had thrown a rod. Are 86' and 89' trannies interchangeable, or do I HAVE to have an '89? Can they be interchanged with any other type of car? The motor still runs really good, and I'm not ready to part with it yet. I realize that I may HAVE to if nothing else works, but I'd just like a little more time with my baby if possible! Alfrock 08-22-2004, 04:09 PM don't forget to check for a tranny from a probe or mx6. these cars are both interchangable with a 626. anything that works on them works on your car REH626 08-24-2004, 12:01 AM don't forget to check for a tranny from a probe or mx6. these cars are both interchangable with a 626. anything that works on them works on your car I didn't think Probes fit in 89's...just from 93' and up? Thanks! I'll look into it, though! Alfrock 08-28-2004, 05:21 AM oh yeah, i didn't even think about the year. still check on that mx6. I've taken a lot of parts off a junked mx6 REH626 09-05-2004, 01:25 AM Thanks for the advice about the mx-6...will make it MUCH easier if I have to do another search, but THANKFULLY I found a tranny for my car last week through an internet search. It only had 121,000 miles on it, which is about 58,000 fewer miles than the original transmission, and it cost a LOT less than what one would have in my area, so I lucked out there! HOPEFULLY my baby will be back on the road by next week (my mechanic is a bit on the slow and meticulous side). Thanks again for the advice! Pretty sure it's easy to find the mx-6's around here, as they were a more popular model out here. sinaloa67chevy 09-20-2004, 07:39 PM you should really add a oil cooler to that trans REH626 09-22-2004, 01:39 AM you should really add a oil cooler to that trans What's that? I mean, obviously it keeps the tranny fluid cooler...but don't they already have that? Or do you replace it every so often or something? Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
