Angry toyota sienna power door problems

Our 1999 Toyota Sienna power door freaked out the other day and started opening and closing erratically (3 or 4 times). This happened when we power-opened the door to let our 3 children in the van. Unfortunately, it didn't stop when one of my children was in the door and bruised his sides up pretty good.

We hit the power off switch on the door and opened it manually, then closed it manually (with a little difficulty). When we got back home, I could not get the door open manually even with considerable force. I took the van to the dealership & they want $1200 to fix the door latch and motor assembly. They are calling it "normal wear and tear".

Anyone else have a similar experience? I think this may be a potentially unsafe defect and I know there is a service bulletin for this problem. Any suggestions on how to get Toyota to help with the repair?

Sienna power door opens & closes

Our 04 Sienna did this when the door handle was sticking. That fixed that part of our power door problem. However, we still haven't gotten a fix to the door closing unexpectedly on a slight incline.

We are having the same problem. The dealer said it will cost over $3,000 to fix. Help! Any suggestions?!?!?

Re: toyota sienna power door problems

This is a safety issue. If I were you, and if my kids got hurt, forget fixing it, I would sue Toyota one million dollars.
