Exclamation Can someone please respond? 528It front end shakes @ 50-65mph

We have a 528 it wagon with the sport suspension and 17 inch bbs style factory rims(with the wide lip). No matter how many times we've had the wheels balanced, the shake is still there. We've had all the rims checked to see if they're bent, and they're all okay. WHat else could be the problem? Could it be the front bushings?

We've also experienced weird tread wear on the rear tires on the inside. Could the rear bushing also be shot? How should I check?

One final question. I have the oppurtunity to get a set of 4 'M' type factory 18 inch rims for our 528. I'm not sure at this point if they're for a 3 series, 5 series, 7 series, or 8 series. Does it matter? Are the bolt patterns different between the different series? How about the offset?
Which M type wheels would fit my car without any problems?

It seems to me that if the bolt pattern is the same, and the offset is the same, they should work.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

Shake could be the engine or transmission mounts. They could be getting old and brittle. After all they are only rubber.

Re: 528It front end shakes @ 50-65mph

Hey xplantdad,
The same thing happened to mine and i just took it the mecanx...
It was due to the engine mounts. However, many other problems cause this shaking.
Also it seems one of your rotors are badly mounted - p.s does the car shake when braking from 60 - 50mph?

As for the rims - the bimmer standard is the 5/120 bolt pattern. SO your rims should fit snugly.

Re: 528It front end shakes @ 50-65mph

Hey there xp,
If that is the case then your bushings are done man. Both front and rear should be checked. Tell me, does the vibration stop when you push the pedal further down for more acceleration? If not then your engine mounts should be replaced too.

Thanks
server
p.s
hows it coming along with the new wheels? did you get them finally?

My 540i '97 has a front end wobble at 50 mph. How did you fix your problem and at what cost?

Thanks CN
