I am looking into getting a cat-back exhaust system for my ride. I was looking at the Apexi and Greddy mostly, but i was wondering if another exhaust like DC sports, or Borla, would give me similar sound.. i want a nice deep tone and no rice burner.

Apexi, Greddy, and RnR have been touted as the most popular exhausts for turbo DSMs...remind me again if your car is turbo or non?

Personally I think exhaust companies are scam artists, and you can go just as fast on a $200 muffler shop exhaust as you can on a $600 brand name one. If I were you I would call a local muffler shop and ask if they do custom exhaust systems. If so, take your car by, have them put it up on a rack, and get a quote for the piping from the cat back, or wherever you decide is the best place to start the exhaust.

Then you can slap a nice muffler on there and have roughly the same sound, look, and performance as an Apexi or Greddy for a much lower price.

I'm going to agree, custom muffler did my neighbors exhaust and it looked just like the N1 exhaust and had a really nice sound done for 180$ his brothers was 130 b/c his bro didn't need the o2 sensor

I know this is a stupid question, but can we buy a domestic muffler and put it on our car? could we get that same sound if we wanted to? I know it would be hard because of the turbo, but just out of curiousity....

Getting a domestic muffler, dual exhaust, etc. won't make your car sound like a V8, if that's what you're asking. If you're looking to sound like a 4 cylinder domestic, I don't know why ;). Any muffler will sound good on a turbo DSM. It is possible to get one that sounds too loud for your tastes, but trust me, it is hard to make a turbo DSM sound bad :D.

I bought a dual tip ebay muffler off of a friend for $30 and had it installed and hung anyway, figuring wtf. Sounds beautiful...I'll get some sound clips on here as soon as my computer starts running again :(
