which manual?buh_buh 02-03-2002, 05:32 AM I'm looking to invest in a manual, and I was wondering which one is recommended. Either the Haynes, the Chilton or Keynes. Which one do you guys use? Which is the most informative and helpful for a beginner trying to learn more about his car? crxlvr 02-04-2002, 08:45 AM haynes and chilton are both made by the same company, so either one of those would be good, i have the chiltons and has good pics, and detailed instructions. buh_buh 02-04-2002, 10:10 AM alright. i guess i'll go out and pick out and pick one out today, thanks. fritz_269 02-04-2002, 04:26 PM Originally posted by buh_buh I'm looking to invest in a manual, and I was wondering which one is recommended. Helm's, Helm's, Helm's!!!! www.helminc.com Worth every penny and more - this is the official Honda manual. My Prelude one is somewhere around 600 pages - and it's specific to my year and trim. No other manual can match it. texan 02-04-2002, 05:05 PM Originally posted by fritz_269 The Helm's manual!!! Someguy 02-07-2002, 11:06 PM The Helm's. The Chitlon and Haynes can be very anoying sometimes. I was helping a friend install a torque converter and shift with a Haynes manual as a guide. Step 3 read, "Remove transmission". Step 8 read "Repeat step 3 in reverse." Gee thanks. The equivalent Helm's manual will list all the bolts (and details), torque specs, ect. VERY good manual. piscorpio 02-07-2002, 11:23 PM The Helms manual is awesome....lots of stuff I dont even understand, so you know its good! :D Phrak 02-10-2002, 04:59 PM Holy CRAP!!! To get the manual It's gonna cost me shite-loads! (prices is US$) Subtotal: $66.00 Shipping: $83.50 Handling: $18.00 Tax: $0.00 TOTAL: $167.50 No way can I afford that! texan 02-10-2002, 05:02 PM Then go to your local dealer and buy it there. I can't imagine a Honda dealer NOT carrying their own service manuals. fritz_269 02-11-2002, 10:09 PM Originally posted by texan Then go to your local dealer and buy it there. I can't imagine a Honda dealer NOT carrying their own service manuals. Actually, they don't!!! Some silly agreement with Helm. I think they stopped in 1998. You have to get it by mail order. Phrak - WTF?? $83 for shipping??? Did you ask for overnight by 8am shipping or something??? Try shipping by ground. And as has been said - it's no joke - buying a Chilton or Haynes when there is a Helm's manual available is a total waste of money. texan 02-12-2002, 12:06 AM Really? I bought mine in Feb '99 from the dealership, for the '99 model. Someguy 02-12-2002, 12:19 AM It depends on your dealer. Some are very (wink wink) if you know what I mean. Ironically the (wink wink) types always seem to have the best service over the by-the-books types. fritz_269 02-12-2002, 08:46 PM Originally posted by texan Really? He seemed fairly honest about it -- he even offered to let me use the computer behind the counter to let me order one off the net! luti 06-01-2002, 07:57 PM Which manual do I need? I have a 98 Civic EX Coupe, and I am planning on doing some engine work, mainly changing the cam, cam gear, valve springs and retainers, plus other random tasks that always manage to pop up. 1996-99 CIVIC 2/3/4 DOOR SHOP MANUAL- $67 1996-2000 CIVIC SERVICE MANUAL- $69 I think the Shop Manual is the one I want, I'm assuming the Service Manual is for oil changes and such. Please help. Thanks texan 06-01-2002, 08:33 PM You want the Helms service manual. With it, you can basically take the car completely apart and reassemble it using only that book. luti 06-01-2002, 10:00 PM Then whats the shop manual do? onesojourner 06-07-2002, 01:28 AM is this the one i need for a 93 ex 61SR301 $62.00 1993 CIVIC 2 3 AND 4 DOOR SHOP MANUAL Year: 1993 Model: CIVIC English Paper integra111 11-15-2003, 10:32 AM JakeDrummer 11-15-2003, 10:59 PM i've got the Haynes manual, payed $10 bucks for it. wrote by an idiot but gets the job done. A. you go with the advice of the most knowladgable folks on this board, pay the extra and get the good book that will let you take apart anything on your car and ell you how to put it back together... or B. get the Haynes/Chilton (they really do suck I have personal expirence with them) get frustradted cause it doesn't help you do shit and then go do option A anyway. It is like anything with your (or at least my car) I would rather do it right with the right parts the first time then have to go back and buy the good stuff afterwards and spend more waste time etc. There you have it I don;t think there is anything else to cover except for locations etc so try here: http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/ That is a repost from one of the earlier posts by Integra111 DoubleTap Sean Price 01-05-2004, 05:12 PM Sean Sean Sean, There you have it I don;t think there is anything else to cover except for locations etc so try here: http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/ That is a repost from one of the earlier posts by Integra111 DoubleTap thats established I know I want this helms manual that everyone talks about but i can't find it even when to the link you provided and did a search came up with these results http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/cart/customer/search.php?XCARTSESSID=ffdbcad8a9f8c6fcf6756326642 48a37&substring=1988+crx now which is the one that wil let me n show me how to tear apart my crx and put it back together n hopefully repair stuff in the process? clicked on a few and they are out of stock isn't there a sight wit an order page i can go to where all i can buy this 1988 crx helms manual? i have followed yalls links and haven't found jack? thanks all and let me know peace one Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
