Turbocharged GTP?kazmaniandevil05 07-31-2004, 03:30 PM I have a 2000 grand prix gtp daytona and want to know if it would make any sense to turbocharge it? I mean, i know i have the supercharger and i have never really heard of a super/turbocharged vehicle. Ripn12s 07-31-2004, 04:43 PM Dont think anyone has ever twin charged a gp. There are turbo Gp's out there. search google for twin charging leadfootGTP 07-31-2004, 05:31 PM unless your doing a custom job, youll be taking the supercharger out, its not practical at all to have both. Cartuning performance is making an adaptor for their turbo kits so that they can be attached directly to the "body" (i donno what its actually called) of the supercharger, and you just take the fans out. TONY_GTP_00 08-01-2004, 06:21 PM I don't think in concept that that is a good idea to supercharge/turbocharge a vehicle. Unless you can afford a $10,000 engine that you could use say for an afternoon of racing. Think about it, the supercharger would begin making boost with the crank and under WOT the turbocharger would spool up creating boost which would either enter the intak manifold (the supercharger) and if the supercharger is capable of creating more boost you would have to have a bottom end capable to withstand atleast 15-20 pounds of boost, if not more. I guess more praticle to go with good ole' twin turbo or as offered aftermarket on Vipers twin supercharged. krebs128 08-01-2004, 08:43 PM there has been a supercharged/turbocharged engine. the s/c would get it off the line, then the turbo would kick in. not sure how well it worked, but i wouldn't try-like said before, uneconomical. intense racing is making a turbo kit for grand prixs, almost ready for sale. but me, i'd stick with the blower. twin turbos are possible on a v6, and prolly would be pretty good. twin superchargers? wouldn't that mean that the engine would now have to drive 2 pullies instead of just one extra (one pully for each blower), while the single blower would be capable of creating more than enough boost for the engine. there'd have to be 2 throttle bodies, or somehow conjoined. now, twin turbos on a v10, one off each exhaust manifold, that's a good idea. leadfootGTP 08-01-2004, 09:11 PM intense racing is making a turbo kit for grand prixs, almost ready for sale. already one comming out sooner, cartuning performance 3800 turbo kit. excellent kit. 18 months in the making. Looks to be a MUCH better designed kit than the intense. Stage 1 w/ intercooler = ~3600 bucks, and w/ an aftermarket exhaust you can expect upwards of 480 hp http://www.3800performance.com/vehicles/grand_prix_97_03_miva.htm kustomkid54 08-02-2004, 08:55 PM How would you get the back plugs in there? Well if you have the money to get it, you have to have the money to have someone tune it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/kustomkid54/1998PontiacGrandPrixGTP001.jpg Melvyn_with_a_GTP 08-03-2004, 01:50 PM I think to have a turbo/supercharged you could not have the roots type supercharger on the gtps. It would need like a centrifugal superchager that was separated from the manifold. Then the are from the supercharger and turbo could join before entering the engine. you would not wont to turbo charge are into a supercharger there would be little if any gane. leadfootGTP 08-03-2004, 04:08 PM the idea of running the turbo through the sc is not to have both a turbo and SC, it is simply easier to just run the turbo through the sc body and remove the fans. the car would only be turbocharged. And to finally end this thread... There is no good reason to turbo and supercharge a vehicle, so either keep the sc, drop in a turbo, or install a twin turbo system. Superchargers are horribly inefficient anyway Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
