Check Engine Light

Hey guys,

I have a 97 Camry LE.

The car is running fine but the check engine light came on yesterday as i was driving to work. After work I got in my car and tried to start it but i didnt want to start, sort of like the battery died out. I opend the hood and noticed the cable connected to the battery looked a little corroded so i disconected the battery and reconected it and checked to see if the car started and it did, the check engine light was off too. Well now im driving home and as i get off the freeway I noticed the light went back on, so what I did is disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it went away again but im afraid that im just "resetting" it or somthing and there might really be a problem. Any Ideas of what it might be?

Re: Check Engine Light

If the code comes back on again, take the car to Autozone, if you have them in your area. They will read the code(s) for free and you will at least have a place to start looking. You can then post the code on this forum and some people may be able to give you some advice.

Re: Check Engine Light

take mikes advice and take your car to autozone. With you disconecting your battery everytime your light comes on that's exactly all it's doing is reseting your computer. Since the light keeps coming on after you disconect the bat. it means that something is wrong.

Re: Check Engine Light

I finally got around to taking it to my mechanic today and he hooked it up to his scanner. He told me it was the ETR (sorry cant really remember) he opened the hood and found a torn vacume hose and said that it could possible be the torn hose. He replaced it free of charge and told me if the light comes back on that i'll have to replace that part the hose was hooked up to.
