Angry 97 blazer wont start

I need help please!!!!!!!!!!!! I traded my 92 firebird that i never had a problem out of to a 97 blazer which has been nothing but a problem. I was on my way home yesterday about an hour from home when it stalled and i stopped and put gas in it because it doesnt want to run if it gets under a quarter of a tank. It started right back and didnt try to quit again I stopped at a park for a minute and i turned it off and it wont start back. I think it may be the fuel pump but not positive. The pump doesnt kick on every time but we thought that was because of a loose connection because you can get under it and mess with it for a minute and you can hear it kicking in, but anyways it was getting gas up to the throttle body when the pump was kicking in do you think it is the pump or something else. The pump would always get real loud when the gas got down to about a quarter of tank but when the gas was full it wouldnt be that loud. I am a female and a blonde but i do know a little bit about vehicles but i dont know about this please somebody help me. I WISH I HAD MY FIREBIRD BACK I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!

To check the fuel pump you will need a fuel pressure gauge like this:

Sunpro Fuel Pressure Tester

Sears item #00902169000 Mfr. model #CP7818

Large easy-to-read 0 to 100 PSI scale tests fuel pump check valve, fuel rail pop-off pressure, fuel rail deterioration and leaking injectors. Learn more

I believe it is $39.95 at Sears and you can get them at other automotive places, I just use Sears as a reference because everyone usually has one near them. The gauge screws onto a valve on the fuel rail near the top back part of the motor at the base on the windshield. I forget the exact specs but believe it is at least 55 to 65 psi and they really need good fuel pressure to run the injectors. I just replaced the fuel pump in mine it is about $350 from the dealer, I bought an aftermarket one for $220 I forget the name but can look it up if you need it. Mine had about 52 psi and would run but was hard starting because the check valve would let the fuel pressure drop to 0 as soon as the truck shut off, so it hard to crank for awhile to build up the fuel pressure and prime the fuel rail. If the fuel pressur is good you will need to check for spark, if no spark you may have a bad module. Mine is a 96 with 155K miles they are not too problematic of a vehicle Good luck!!

Re: 97 blazer wont start

Hi!
we had the same problem with our s-10 blaze and we have just called the number 1-800-222-1020(Chevy) or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC) to check if they had any recall for the this and they told me that they don't have yet but they will if they get enough people calling about. This looks like to be a problem that happens a lot to the 4.3 because I know two more people that have the same problem. Then if you call this number maybe they have something to tell you about it.

I hope that works for you. We have replaced the starter and it didn't solve the problem. A friend of mine replaced the fuel pump and it didn't work either. Let us know if you find a solution we are replacing more parts next week and we will let you know about. When we called Chevy they told us to save the receipt for our parts because if they ever have a recall for our area they will give our money back even if we have already fixed the problem. They have a recall for California and another state I can't remember now for the same problem. I am trying to get people in PA to call Chevy about it. Maybe they will at least tell us what is wrong with our s-10.

Re: 97 blazer wont start

I live in Aurora Indiana, and I also have the same problem with my 97 blazer. I am getting ready to put the 3rd fuel pump in, in 2 years, with the last one only lasting 2 months, anybody find out anything that could be causing this?
