Exclamation Need help with some major problems with 95 probe

hi guys, i'm having some major problems with my car (95 ford probe 2.0L automatic trans). it's been running poorly for quite some time; the main issue (that i know of) is that i have a vaccum leak coming from somewhere near the air intake manifold. while this can tend to make a car run choppy (indeed, it has ) and attribute to stalling, i don't believe it is the cause of the latest problem. over the past week the car has shown signs of having some throttle position sensor problems; that is while driving, it sometimes has trouble accelerating, and also from time to time will spike in rpm's for no apparent, etc. anyway, the other day as i got off the highway and came to a stop sign, when i went to get going again the car would not accelerate at all. i basically limped the rest of the way to work in first gear. later, when i tried to leave, the car would not move forward at all, yet still is able to go in reverse. at first glance i'd think i had a major transmission failure, but when that happened to my father's car a while back, none of the gears (including reverse) worked, yet in mine i can still reverse.

also, yesterday when i was checking it out again, it began to make sort of a 'tapping' noise, and now if i dont keep my foot on the gas it just stalls out automatically. any ideas?

i had a 94 SE and in order to keep mine from stalling i also had to keep my foot on the gas even at a stop light while braking...i took it to a shop and it was the EGR valve that had to be replaced..they replaced it and it was fine

hmm, that's good to know, thanks

although, since my car won't move forward, that would only solve half the problem :-/

try unplugging the sensor at the air filter and see if it goes away.

well, i'm pretty much sure the stalling is due to the vacuum leak i have coming from near the intake manifold... the main problem now is the not going into gear part

well sorry to hear that. my tranny just went out for the second time about a month ago most trannies will usually go rev. or in first only as far as your t.p.s sensor they are about 120 to 194 dollars as far as your vac. leak theres a hose running from your valve cover to your thorttle body housing check that hose well. heres another tip if you get it running take injection cleaner to the same hose i refured to start your car pull hose lose on valve cover side and in small amounts pour the injection cleaner into the hose the car will bog down rev. it up do this until about half the bottle is gone your exhust will blow black smoke repeat this until the engine blows white smoke it burns all the carbine biuldup off
