oil conversionon 2001 Civicnmikmik 07-20-2004, 05:02 PM I want to convert my 2001 Civic to a synthetic oil right after it runs out of the manufacturer waranty, which is about now…. The recommended oil is 5W20 But right now there is Mobil 1 on ‘sale’ for $4, but they don’t have 5W20 they have 0W20 and on the box it says that it “Recommended for Ford and Honda 5W20 service” I was changing oil in that Civic way too regularly…. Do I still need to run it with flushing oil or just straight replacing regular oil agter a good ½ hr drain is enough? I’d just hate to ruin the engine because of some junk got dislodged into the oil after flushing it. Thanks, sinister2002 07-20-2004, 10:01 PM you can run 5w30 in your car just a little thicker, the only thing is change to a semi synthetic before full because full syn and regular oil foams, it's kind of like oil and water! but when you do fully change over use royal purple thats what i use! exman98 07-20-2004, 10:15 PM what would happen if you changed over to full symthetic right away. never though oil was that complicated CivicSpoon 07-20-2004, 10:21 PM I am glad i read this, I have to change my oil and I want to change it to synthetic oil. But all I could find was semi-synthetic in 5w30 so I bought it. Glad to know I made a good decision after all. nmikmik 07-21-2004, 08:27 PM Thanks, I guess it’s a good idea to rung semi synthetic first (isn’t it a mix of synthetic and regular oil anyway?) but I would not run 5W30 especially in the winter. Thanks again. leftmullet4 11-04-2004, 01:17 AM Full synthetic doesn't foam. Conventional does. just have the engine warm when you drain the oil. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
