'55 Chev Pickup chassis

This neighbor of mine is building his "dream truck", he's got the whole body less the p/u bed. He asked me to help him put it on the frame he has. It's a 70's 3/4 ton chev p/u rolling chassis. It doesn't come close to fitting up. I told him I'd see how hard it would be to find a '55 frame. anybody got a line on one? Anybody know what years will interchange.?

Re: '55 Chev Pickup chassis

you could take measurements of the frame and try to match. sometime cars the had a full frame in them (like the 70's ) with leaf spring rearends would make a match pretty good

Re: '55 Chev Pickup chassis

I would try Hemmings Motor News, buy a copy and start making some phone calls. It's possible someone is selling a parts truck or might have one they used to build the good truck they are now trying to sell.

Also, I seem to remember that there was a mid year design change, and some '55's were the 49 to 54 design, then there was a big change. The later '55's were largely unchanged through '57.

Re: '55 Chev Pickup chassis

Some additional information is required. Is your friends truck a 55 first series (Advance Design Model) or 55 second series (Task Force Model)? The current practice for frame swaps of the first series is to use S-10 frames. The second series can use the 73 up frame but both require extensive modifications. If he is trying to get IFS there are other options available that may cost more but will give better results. Tell him to check out the Stovebolt.com website for information on early chevy trucks.
