verifying model year?

Hi. This is my first post, so be gentle. I have what I think is a 1994 525i, but I would like to verify that it is a '94. Is there any way to do that through the cars serial numbers, etc.? The manual has no date for the car on it, but was printed in '92 (and is written in German). Is that possible?

Thanks for your help!

It says the month and year it was made on the driver side door below the B-arm. Its where the door locks onto the car, that little bracket. You could also type your vin into www.carfax.com and it will tell you the same thing.

Checked the door panel today. There is a little plate there but it does not list any dates, just tire preasure info, how many people the car should carry, etc. Any place else on the car I can look???

Re: verifying model year?

www.bmwlinks.com, search out the link that takes you to the vin decoder section. This will give you a plethora of info. Or try this link: http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/t...n_decoding.htm

By the way the tenth digit of your vin denotes the year, a '94 therefore would be an R.

Re: Re: verifying model year?

Thanks Peterllo,

I've determined that the car is a '91, and have ordered some filters and other parts for it through D&M Auto, the best parts place I've ever found if you live overseas. The manual, however, is completely in German. Do you know of anyplace I can download, or get a hard copy of, the manual in English?

Thanks!

Re: verifying model year?

A) Contact BMW, I would guess you'll spend in the area of $50 for a complete packet.
B) Contact a local junk yard see if they have any recent arrivals.
C) Ebay
D) Get a Haynes guide they give pretty good general maintenace information. I found the following link on the web. You can likely find one in a local parts store like Advanced Auto Parts.
