Unhappy Spark plugs?

Can anyone clarify to me what it means when youfind oil on your spark plug? I was re-gapping my plugs today and the 1st plug i took off was the one to the far right of the throttle body(when looking towards the rear of the car). I checked all other plugs, but only that one had oil all over it and the hole the plug sits in. Help plz. Thanks.

Re: Spark plugs?

I assume you are talking about the one closest to the driver side of the car? That would be #4 (closest to the tranny).
#1 is all the way on the passenger side of the car.

Was the oil on top of the plug or on the bottom?
If it was on the top (where the wire pushes onto it, it is probably just a leaky valve cover gasket.

If it was actually on the electrode, then you may have bigger problems.

Re: Spark plugs?

The oil was just on top of the plug. And it was the plug closest to the driver's side, but that is the right side. The oily plug was closest to the timing belt. Thanks

Re: Spark plugs?

Actually the "sides" of a car are referenced to the driver in the seated position. So the driver side is the left side. The passenger side is the right.

The good news is you probably only need a new valve cover gasket
