96 rodeo charging, brake, 4wd issuesbell93 07-16-2004, 10:52 PM please help. this evening i went out to grab something to eat, turned of the car, after about 30 min i left. when i turned the truck on i noticed that the brake system light, charging system light, and the 4wd light were all illuminated. i checked to make sure that the brake was completely down and it was. i safely drove it home and turned it off for a few minutes. turned it back on and the same thing happened. does anyone know what this means and how i can begin to troubleshoot this issue? bell amigo-2k 07-17-2004, 08:27 AM I'm pretty sure that is a sign of the weak altenator, which should be replaced. -Ryan bell93 07-17-2004, 10:10 AM we thought that too. just tested the alternator by taking the positive cable off while the truck was running and it cut off. however, when we put it back on, the car cut on and then off and i tried to crank it again; it would not start. check the cable and cleaned and now it cranks. however, the lights are still on and now my radio will not come on. bell 95.5 Rodeo 07-18-2004, 03:35 AM we thought that too. just tested the alternator by taking the positive cable off while the truck was running and it cut off. however, when we put it back on, the car cut on and then off and i tried to crank it again; it would not start. check the cable and cleaned and now it cranks. however, the lights are still on and now my radio will not come on. bell I've never heard of this kind of test. It may not be a good idea to disconnect battery cables while the engine is running. Check the battery with a voltmeter for 14.5 volts with the engine running or take it to your local automotive supply store and they will check your charging system for free.
