K&N Filter without Pop ChargerDprotech 05-21-2001, 09:52 AM Someone asked me how I had my K&N Filter put on. Well it was simple ..the box filter was removed and an adapter was put in that fitted a K&N Filter. I think a picture will speak a thousand words here ..take a look poppy_morenito 05-21-2001, 10:55 AM I don't see the picture .... DVSNCYNIKL 05-21-2001, 11:11 AM Hmmm, that pic would make it worth while. Dprotech 05-22-2001, 12:59 AM Here are the pics ..sorry probs with my firewall Dprotech 05-22-2001, 12:59 AM This is how it is mounted ..to the chassis Dprotech 05-22-2001, 01:01 AM a Closer look at the fit .... I've since removed the filter box ..but can't figure out what to do with the sensor in the original intake front end. Doesn't seem to affect performance .....I just cleaned the filter ..car feels better now. dchien 05-24-2001, 02:43 PM dpro... have you noticed any difference in performance? it looks easy to put in yourself....do you think it is? why did you keep the bottom half of the filter box on? thanks in advance d DVSNCYNIKL 05-24-2001, 03:11 PM That's a very good job. Dprotech 05-24-2001, 03:47 PM I removed the bottom box this week while cleaning out the filter. I left it on to check the performance and to make sure that the attachment was strong enough. Without the box ..there is a ton of room for air to flow in. Performance is night and day ..car is much more responsive in the upper range. without an exhaust you can feel the engine straining against the back pressure. Once this is relieved ..its free power all the way to redline. thanks dvs Dprotech 05-24-2001, 03:49 PM the adapter can be obtained as a part for the sr20de engine. And yes it is easy to put on. You will have to fabricate the attachment bracket poppy_morenito 05-25-2001, 02:55 PM Originally posted by Dprotech Without the box ..there is a ton of room for air to flow in. I have an intake they left the bottom on mine, I thought it defeated the purpose having the cylinder shaped air filter to have hal of it covered .... GTO-TT/Chev57 05-25-2001, 03:56 PM When you change to this type of filter make sure you don't get to much engine heat in there. Cold air going into the filter is just as important as flow. I have seen people make a cover over them and a pipe so cold air from the front of the car is sucked in and this makes a big difference. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
