Fan Needs Help Please

Okay I Was Driving Home From Work Yesterday And I Was Looking At My Temp Gauge And It Was At 220, So It Was Not A Problem Because My Fan Doesn't Turn On Until That Temp. Well I Noticed My Fan Didn't Come On Because Them Temp Kept Rising, Luckily I Made It Home. Well Anyways I Couldn't Work On It Yesterday Because It Was So Hot, So This Morning I Check To Make Sure The Cable Was On The Fan And It Was, I Checked The Fuse And It Was Fine, So I Warmed Up The Car And The Fan Didn't Come On , So I Had To Go To Work, So I Just Cut The Fan Harness And Wired It Directly To The Battery, I Know That Was A Mickey Mouse Job, But I Had To Get To Work, Well Anyways I Need To Know How Could I Set Up A Toggle Switch So I Could Manually Turn The Fan On Inside The Car. I Would Appreciate Any Help.

Re: Fan Needs Help Please

power from 12 volt source; wire an inline fuse for whatever amp fan you have between the source and the switch; have the power wire go into one of the switch terminals; run a wire from the other switch terminal to the positive of the fan; run a wire from the negative of the fan to a good ground, preferably engine but not necessary.

also make sure that you get a switch that can handle the current that will be running to the fan. most fans are what, 20-30amps? you dont want a switch that is only rated for 3 amps, itll fry up...

check your fan switch in the passenger head first, if the fan comes on when the AC is on, then it's a bad fan switch, if it doesn't then its the relay. no sense in wiring it direct if can just change a $10 sensor.

if you really want it wired through a switch tho, there's a much easier and cheaper way of doing it. get about 8-10ft of light gauge wire and solder or crimp a 1/4in male slide connecter on the end. pull the wire off the fan switch and slide your new male connector into it. then run it to your dash through a switch to ground.

Re: Fan Needs Help Please

why pay ten dollars for a relay when you can spend 3 and wire the fan directly, and control temp more acturately??

also, i would use nothing smaller than 18 guage, standard copper wire...

It's better to add a relay then to put all the load on the switch itself. That's why the invented them. It's not like your running a trans lock and need the accuracy of not having a relay.

fan switch

i just finished putting in my new fan switch, it was pretty easy, i've always wanted to put a manual switch for my fan, because my fan wouldn't turn on until 220, i live in southern cali, and it gets reall hot, so this way i'm able to run the fan when the temp gets to 160, when the weather gets hot my camaro use to run reall hot, not overheating but just running at 230. well i put in the new switch and i think it's pretty cool, just wanted to thank everyone for there help, by the way i called a repair shop by my house and they told me that it would cost me 200 for a new switch what a rippoff, it only cost me 30$.
