two months ago my blazer started making a sound similar to an old hand cranked fire siren. I was told it was the transfer case. All my mechanic told me to do was hit the 4wd high button (push button 4wd) and then the 2wd in order to make the sound stop. The sound was due to the vehicle wanting to go into 4wd and is getting stuck in between. Since that time the the sound is more frequent. Today it would not shift out of 4wd when using the mechanics advice. I would like any thoughts on narrowing down to what needs replacing or fixing. I'm trying to figure out why its doing this and why pushing buttons is making it stop.
I have a 1998 Blazer with the same problem.I've had the module changed($479.00) and the encoder motor replaced($606.97) and still have the problem. Now the 4WD 10 AMP fuse blow's.I had that checked out($114.75) and they couldn't find anything wrong.Have you had any luck finding out what the problem is? My name is Howard Rebeck and my e-mail address is howardrebeck@aol.com.I hope you've had better luck.
hi only a thought but why not try,,. disconnect the battery terminals let be for a minute , then back on, maybe the blazer will set back to factory settings. And just like the previous writer said it is summer why would you need the 4 wheel. i have a 92 jimmy with the electronic switch and getting maybe next week a 91 blazer with a manual one.
I changed the vacuum switch that's located on top of the transfer case and it corrected that promlem with my 98 Blazer. The part cost's about $32.00 and take's about 15 min.to replace. The ball in the switch was stuck inside.
