TL's and stolen HID's

I am sad to say I had to sell my 2000TL this week. The theft rate on these HID's is out of control. It's happened twice to me and the repairs average $3200 bucks per incident.

My co-workers friend had it happen to her twice in less than a 3 week period. My neighbors friend had it happen twice to him also. All of the cars were 2000TL's.

I can no longer wonder if my car's headlights will be there when returning to my car. They mangle the bumper and fenders to get the lights out. It's some scene. The theives don't care about security camera's or alarms. They steal them so quickly it's a joke.

Here's a link I found:

That's horrible and it's not happening just to Acura. All cars with HID are attracting theives.

I have seen a lot of T.L's without headlights in Brooklyn NY. I have even seen some new Maximas without H.I.D's.

Angry i agree

I live in a small town in Pennsylvania so i don't have to worry about it that much, the huge hype on our headlights is because they sell them for accord drives on the streets. you usually see a lot of them for sale on ebay

Sorry to hear that. My dad has his stolen off his Maxima and my friend had his stolen off his 330ci. I live in NY so all cars w/ HID's are at Risk. And the way they do it is such butchery. Stealing it alone is bad. but they tottally destroy the car. Sorry again.
Hugs and Kisses,
NAP

Whoa..that's horrible...I haven't heard anything like that happen in Canada yet...but I guess that's why alot of people have headlights working on one side and not the other.

That really sucks, stupid thieves

Huge Market

The reasons for all the thefts from the TL's are two 1.) The huge market to sell them for Accords with no changes and Civics with a coupleminor changes. 2.) The ballasts are mounted right behind the lights, in most european cars with xenons the ballasts are mounted further back. My $.02.

HID's stolen

Its such a big turn off when considering a TL, I don't know about the new ones, but I even heard the 2000 and earlier TLs with xenons were stolen and placed into accords, the shape is the same. The new ones have a round thingus on the bottom, but they still steal'em cause of the wireing. And it takes them only 30 seconds to remove both HIDs if they are Pro's and work in pair. They almost stole mine once, but I guess someone has scared them off, cause they only got to bend one fender and open the hood.

My advice is if you live in a neighborhood where this kinda thing happens, don't park it in the same place or leave it in the same place for more then a night/day, and park it closely behind another car, this will make their job more difficult and they will pass on it.

That's sad! I had never heard of HID's being stolen from TL's, must not happen very often in FL. Sorry about your loss!

A co-worker just had his HID's stolen from the lot where my TL was hit twice. The same lot has HID's from Nissian, B&W, Lexus and only the Acura's get hit. I just don't understand why these low lifes go just for the Acura's.
