Unhappy Blown 454 in RV Rebuild or buy new one???

I blew the engine running up the grapevine on my way home to So. Californina. The chassis is an 83 model Chevy. Some of the shops in town say to replace the motor with the same type motor or just rebuild this one. Some others say don't rebuild buy a new one that is newer version of the 454 a series 5 instead of the series 4 that is in it. The difference cost wise is thousands of $$$. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mickeydim468

I bet a new engine will outlive everything else on the RV - so if you're not planning on keeping it alive another 20 years go with whatever's cheap. One good thing about having the original rebuilt is you can pick a new cam for it that has some great low end for getting up to highway speed faster.

Wanted to buy:
86-88 Fiero GT, 5 speed, fixer-upper. Blown motor, no motor? No problem! Rusty unibodies need not apply.
74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????
