Car stops!al1126 07-08-2004, 01:12 AM Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I don't know much about cars, but I've been having a problem with my mx-3. While I was driving, it turned off on me. It's never done this before but anyway one mechanic told me it was my distributor, and another said my fuel injectors might be clogged. I have no idea who to believe, and now I'm kind of paranoid that it's gonna turn off on me again. Any suggestions? Thanks... mx3man 07-08-2004, 10:24 AM Well, it could be quite a few things. Does the check engine light come on? Do you have a rough idle before/after the car stalled, or is it rough all the time? What are you idling at? al1126 07-08-2004, 10:51 AM Nope, the check engine light doesn't go on. It just turns off sometimes while I'm driving it, but when I try to start it again it starts fine. I'm idling at 1000, but sometimes it's rough, and when I'm stoppped (like at a light or something), the car is a little shaky. mx3man 07-08-2004, 11:51 AM automatic or manual? cuz automatics sometimes are pretty shaky even when they're fine. What area are you in? al1126 07-08-2004, 03:13 PM It's an automatic...I'm in new jersey. babybluemx3 07-09-2004, 11:34 AM my guess is the disty...does it happen when your running your car and sudently its stalled..then you restart it and it's fine? lone_night_fox 07-09-2004, 08:17 PM it also can be the timing... I had a friend who has had automatics and the timing had jumped and it messed up cauz of that al1126 07-10-2004, 10:11 AM Yea I'll just be driving, and it turns off at any given time. If it is the distributor, is it true that it eventually will not even turn on anymore? al1126 07-10-2004, 10:12 AM Oh yeah and once it turns off, I can start it right away with no problem. babybluemx3 07-10-2004, 10:31 AM Yea I'll just be driving, and it turns off at any given time. If it is the distributor, is it true that it eventually will not even turn on anymore? yes it will..it happened to me..it will do it more and more often and one day your car won't start anymore...the problem?..the ignitor in the disty al1126 07-10-2004, 07:59 PM Ok, now can you change just the ignitor or would I have to change the whole distributor? babybluemx3 07-10-2004, 11:01 PM the ignitor itself can be change but you got to tear the distributor apart...it's an electronic piece inside lone_night_fox 07-11-2004, 09:05 AM it's easier than it sounds... I've done it on a Church Van in AUTO class.... it's pretty easy (just mark your wires and where they hook up to) Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
