I was just wondering how people find out where the "spots" for street race gatherings are in thier area? As of now I wouldnt race in them, more interested in spectating. So how did you guys find you local meetings?

Cruise around looking! I don't watch the formal events though, i just drive until i come across someone that wants a run.

Even though it will be funny buddying up with import mechanics/racers when most would discredit me considering a mustang GT as my next car. Actually, now that I think about it, for those of you involved heavily in street racing, would a mustang GT be a good option for a car im looking to pay around 8-9k for? Any other suggestions? I am not an all american car or all import car person, I like cars. So whichever would perform best for the price, dont hesitiate to suggest it. Thanks

He meant that participation of any sort, being the racer or the spectator, can lead to punishable circumstances in either role you play. Be careful with that!

it might depend on where you live, but i think it's a newer law as well. a few years ago some of the people i worked with were really into street racing, and rarely ever were punished by the law when they were caught watching. however, a few months ago one of my close friends was given 4 points on his license, an insurance bump, and a fine for watching two of our friends streetrace. i think four people total were busted in that one. the two drivers and two people watching.

easiest fix: don't do it if there will be people around.

getting caught racing because you had a momentary urge is one thing, and i've seen more people get off with lesser convictions (i.e. speeding + reckless driving) than an actual "racing" offence. but if you go looking for "big races" or any that have been organized, you're guaranteed trouble when you get caught.

For 8-9k you can get a 94-95 mustang cobra.An Eclipse GSX would also be a good choice along with a mustang GT or an lt1 Trans am/Formula or Camaro Z28.

The more interesting races come up when I'm just tolin around late night. Big events get broken up to often. The best situation would be to get some friends together, and go out. Talked to people if you want to find bigger events.

Autotrader is your friend when It comes to looking for cars. I found a GS-R Teg, Turboed, Intake, Turbo Exhaust, headers, etc. etc. etc...for a nice sum of 10k. Hell, I've found an insane amoutn of bad ass cars for cheap there.

Onto your question...Just keep your eyes open around parkling lots and what not for a decent group of people with cars that look like they are raced. We all hang out at a Starbucks (owner is cool with it), so when the cops show up, all we have to do is smile and say 'no officer, I'm not trying to race, I'm simplying enjoying my Venti Venilia Mocha Latte with four shots of Irish Creme, Two Shots of Hazlenut, four Espresso shots, whip cream instead of foam, and five degrees hotter than usuall.' Better yet, the owner normaly asks the cops to leave, and says that he'll call if he needs them. Low and behold, they leave....I love Ft. Worth Cops. Arlington and Dallas cops are assholes.
