Would you buy another GrandAM?

Im helping my son look for his first car.
We looked at a 93 grandam with 55,000 miles. Owner said the tranny was rebuilt at 45,000 miles.

He is asking 3500 which is high according ti KBB

All you GrandAM owners- let me know if you would buy one again!

Thanks

Re: Would you buy another GrandAM?

What engine and trim package of 93 grand am is it?
Power locks , power windows , sunroof , coupe or sedan? Does seem alot of cash for a 11 year old car but if its in mint shape should be ok. Take it for a hard test drive see how it behaves after driving it 2 hours. Ask for as much service history as he can find , or get the vin number and find out through gm. I see alot of higher miled GA's same year as that all over the place so they cant be all that bad.

I like my grand am but I wouldn't buy another. Not because I don't like the car, I have Trans Am on my mind for my next car.

Re: Would you buy another GrandAM?

i bought a 93 in october. 3.3V6, 94k, power locks/windows, 2-dr, excellent condition for $2500... so $3500 on a 4cyl, regardless of low miles, is not worth it.

Re: Would you buy another GrandAM?

Maybe $2500 in MINT. The head gaskets and or head usually goes bad round 100,000 miles. Could be costly repairs. I would never buy a 4 cyl grand am

Bought a 1990 Grand Am for my daughter 5 years ago with 40K miles and so far had to replace water pump, alt. radiator leak, tailpipe, muffler, timing belt. Traded it in on a 2001 grand am se1 and so far had to replace cooling fans. Security light came on so I guess that means another repair and also the rotors are shot with only 39k Miles. Going back to ford next time.

Thumbs down

I can't say that I want another grand am. I fell in love with them when I had one as a rental but then my cousin talked me into buying a used one that had came in at the car lot he worked at. I've had nothing but problems ever since. First my driver's side window is garbage. I have to hit the door panel where the motor is to get it to go down. The engine blew a cam header and I had to have the entire engine replaced. Now I have a valve knocking and the auto shop that replaced my engine said that they don't know what is wrong with it and that its probably nothing! A friend of mine heard it for the first time and said it was a valve. I also have serious engine lag (probably because of the valve) when accelerating and it just sounds bad. The car body is flawless but just runs like crap. Would I buy another grand am? Probably not.

Re: Would you buy another GrandAM?

I would definitly buy another. I have a '95 GA, 5 spd, quad 4, 2.3L with 150+k on it. Runs great! I bought it with 95k and all ive done is change the plugs, new tires, and oil changes. Paid $2000 and its worth every penny. I couldve paid $4000 and still been ok with it.

the older models are proving to be pretty reliable, time can only tell about the newer models. So far with my 99 SE sedan i've only have had to replace tires and spark plugs besided other general maintenence. Although i'm in the process of replacing a wheel bearing and figuring out a computer problem. Had it since 36k miles, now going around 95k.

I got my 97 Grand AM SE 2.4L Quand 4about a month ago with 85000 miles. I paid 2250 fo it and so far it is one of the best investments I've ever made. It runs good and the only thing that has gone wrong is a 300 dollar alternator problem. If I were you I would defenitly buy the car.

I dont know if i woud've bought another Grand Am or not. I've got a 1998 Grand Am GT sedan 3.1L V6 DOHC w/dual exhaust @ 81,000km (51,000 mi) I bought it brand-new for $31,000 CDN after taxes with ALL the options(pw, pl, psf etc). Its was a nice smooth ride, very fast and responsive for the first few years I had it, then there were a whole list of problems. To date I've had to have these parts fixed/replaced:
-whole new set of tires (bridgestone G2 sports)-$1200 CDN
-brakes replaced and re-aligned (2 disk fornt, 2 drum rear)-$800 CDN
-new alternator -$250 CDN
-battery cables cleaned (car almost stalled several timesduril driving)-50$ CDN
-suspension re-tuned-$400 CDN
Total:-$2700 CDN
-$2100 US
And I'm sure there is still a few things I'm forgetting...

I bought my 2001 GT used in December. I normally am against buying used cars, but my Cavalier pooped out on me and I couldn't afford a new car at the time so I luckily stumbled across this Grand Am. It was like new, only 28k on it, not a scratch, new wheels, and it still smelled new too

I have only had a few minor problems with it so I think that I would definitely at least consider buying another one in the future, even though I am partial to foreign cars.
