stock airbox breather valve 2000 jetta???

I just installed an AEM CAI, on my 2000 jetta 2.0L, and in the instructions it shows the stock air box having an 3/4 inch about, hose coming out of the air box, and then running somewhere under the engine cover. All my airbox had was the big intake hose! Just wondering if anyone knew why I don't have one. anyway, so I just installed one of those little breather filters, that I bought at autozone on the CAI. Is this the correct solution, any suggestions or answers are appreciated, thanks
