Steering Wheel Snap Ring Removal

I have a '92 S-10 that needs the ignition replaced. I removed the steering wheel but can't seem to get the snap ring off. What is the best way to remove this tiny little pest? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

STOP. Go to any parts store and for $9.99 you can get a tool for the job. The spring behind that snap ring and star plate can kill. It absorbs the energy in a crash. It is real easy to remove with the tool. Good Luck.
