I own a 97 cherokee sport which I purchased one year ago and immediately noticed the "clunking". During the emmissions inspection the jeep would not stop when the brakes were applied (the jeep is placed on a dyno for the inspection in NYS). I replaced the rear shoes, and the problem continued, replaced the proportioning valve, and nothing. Replaced both wheel cylinders, nothing. Finally replaced the master cylinder and the problem stopped...for a while, then the problem returned. I did notice while replacing the front brake pads that when I collapsed the calipers the problem disappeared. But guess what the problem seems to be coming back. I hear the clunking but not as strong. Anybody have any suggestions?? Possibly more bleeding necessary??
