KL-ZE Potential
I was wondering what the potential of a KL-ZE is? How much horspower could i possible get out of that motor and what kind of parts would help for that? Thanks

Re: KL-ZE Potential
I dont have the link handy but I have seen a KLZE motor push around 700hp in a drag car.
With minor bolt-ons (eg Headers, Intake, exhaust, pulleys etc...), you can get 220HP pretty easy. With Forced Induction the sky is the limit, or your wallet, whichever comes first. If you go the forced induction route however, it starts to get expensive. I would strongly suggest forged pistons, rods etc etc.. the stock internals of a KL-ZE are not made to take high pressure like that. There is already a high pressure in the piston chambers, adding more air and more gas would just mean trouble.
Im reading a lot about turbos and stuff right now so Im kinda fresh, if you want any more info about a turbo KLZE, talk to babybluemx3, he's currently working on a turbo setup. Its gonna be PIMPIN but unless you're serious about spending some money into your car, forget turbos and superchargers for now.

How much would the forged pistons and everything cost around?

Re: KL-ZE Potential
i lost the link to the company that sells it that I saw, but the set (pistons, rods etc) was 1300$USD. But I am pretty sure you would also have to get your motor bore'd out because the pison set is made for 2.7L displacement. *I THINK*

actually it's czt that make custom pistons/rod/wrist pin...they go around 1300 usd like you said..I'm pretty sure this internal could go up to 600hp..they come in the diffenet CR like 8.7 - 9.2 and 11..they all come 0.02 overbore so that means you'll have a head job to do...
like mx3man said your wallet is pretty much the limit but when playing with 500+ horsies their gonna be problems but not with the engine...the tranny is the weak point but then again czr makes hardcore trannys...and 500+hp on a fwd...I don't think so
many companie exist that makes custom pistons like you want..JE Pistons is one of the most reputable companies out there...
but before jumping into force induction there's a lot of reading to do...I've been reading for over 2 years now on that and just started to buy my parts but I'm sure I'm going to have a good set up since I know my thing now..

Re: KL-ZE Potential
why not buy a RWD car? like a supra? you could afford it with all the money it would take to do the RWD swap on an MX3... buy i agree, yes it would be cool.
On another note, the MR2 would be an awesome choice if u want RWD...

Re: KL-ZE Potential
yah, i was looking around and i would rather buy a cheap car and fix it/mod it than spend the same amount on a car only. I would probably not end up putting a RWD swap unless i was a very very rich

Re: KL-ZE Potential
ya... why not do a V-6 Swap into the FC RX-7.... it's about the same size and weight.. give or take, and it's RWD... if you perfer Mazda and don't like the Rotary... also the FC and the MX3 both Redline @ 7K, so you will not need a new Tach

Re: KL-ZE Potential
yes, but you have to consider that if you put a KLZE into your car, it is going to cost more than 2Gs... repairs, upgrades (mainly suspension) and the KLZE itself will make your car cost around 5000$ most likely...
An MX3 for 2Gs isn't in its prime anymore, there will most likely be bodywork to be done as well. An MX3 in decent shape normally goes for 3000+

Re: KL-ZE Potential
i paid 2500$CAD for mine, and have put in around 1500$ in repairs on it(Im not a lucky guy), and plus my KLZE engine swap im in the middle of right now... by the end (no bodywork) Im at 6000$ By next year, when I do bodywork, paint, and bodykit, Ill be around 9000$ into my car. Then maybe Ill get a soundsystem or something. I know 10000$CAD on an MX3 is quite a bit, and yes I prolly could've gotten a way cooler car, but I wanted a project car, and i got it.
