Question Another Newbie question.

OK now I’m showing my true wet behind the ears knowledge of Pontiac and how new I’m am to this site. What exactly does ‘WS6’ stand for. I understand that it’s a badge that comes with the performance package but what does it mean and how did it start. In a nutshell can anyone tell me what comes different or upgraded in the WS6? I think the package was available in different years, I’m asking about the 98-02, or did it start in 96?

WS6 is one of the "regular production options" on the order sheet. GM uses these codes to identify packages. LT1 and LS1 (Chevy engines) are examples of engine codes that I am sure you have heard of. The dealer checks off a box on the order sheet (or it comes checked on a ready built auto) and you get all of the stuff for that option. The different years have slightly different equipment. For '79 for instance, the WS6 option was called a "Special Performance Package" and included stuff like wider wheels, four wheel disk brakes and larger sway bars.
