JDM B16 meets my 2000 Civic EX emissions problem???
I am days away from ordering my JDM b16a2 with tranny/ecu and all the fixings. I was just told, however, that if I drop that engine into my car that it won't pass emissions tests. I am in Wisconsin, so it's not as strict as CA, but has anyone else heard of this??? Any help would be appreciated. Also, what else do I need to make this???

JDM B16A2?? the B16A2 is an american motor out of the 99-00 Civic Si. Anyways, i think you should be fine with emissions.

actually, it's a b16a, there (in Japan) is no number at the end it, it's known as the 1st gen and 2nd gen b16a. Just make sure it's OBD2 and not OBD1 and it will pass emissions. I'm assuming your in Milwaukee because they do have emissions testing there so good luck. You can find the OBD2 b16a in the Del Sol VTEC and the 6th gen Si. Other wise you can get JDM b16a OBD2 motors.

You are correct MadTown....my mistake. I managed to get the read disc conversion out of an old integra gs and the underbody kit from an SI for $300, so I am pretty happy. I'll drive it in an EX and pull it out an SI...thanks for all the help guys. By the way, is there a car club in WI at all???

response to emissions guidelines
i think that in order to meet emissions guidelines in any state one of the main requirements for engine swaps is that the engine that's being swapped into the vehicle must be manufactured in the same year or a more recent year than the present.
i.e., if i have a 94 civic h/b and i want to swap in a b16a from a '90 crx, this is illegal,
but if i want to swap in a b16a2 from a '96 or up civic si, that IS legal
because it was produced on or after the year of the car's mfg date.
the reason for this is the fact that emissions laws and codes constantly change and are more strict each year they are re-written.
hope this helps.
