1995 corolla engine whining

It may be a bit vague, but does anyone have an idea what might cause engine whine? It becomes more pronounce upon acceleration, but lessens as speed increases.

the whine could be coming from any of the bearings on the pulleys for the alternator, ac compressor, idler pulley, ps pump, etc.
If you can hear the whine when the car is stationary, I would take of one belt at a time and start it to see if the whine goes away. This will help to narrow your search.
I had a whine on my '94 and it turned out to be the a/c compressor clutch bearing. A new clutch cost me about $70. It was too much of a hassle to replace the bearing alone.
Hope this helps!
