Transfer case leak

Yo guys ,my TC leaks fluid. It leaks where the front drive shaft connection enters the transfer case. is it a bad seal? How much does a seal cost & can it be a do it yourself job? Hope i dont have to take the transfer case off to solve this. Thanks in advance

Did you find any info? I just noticed mine is leaking also.
The manual shows a seal, as well as a yoke seal washer, the seal looks a bit complicated to install, they show a couple of special tools to seat it, but it may be doable without. I'll have mine apart today most likely.

Re: Transfer case leak

Oops, I replied to a year-old post

Anyway, for anyone interested, that seal is replaceable from the outside of the case, without removing the TC from the Jeep (at least on the 249)
Take the big nut off of the yoke, remove the yoke, and the yoke seal washer thingy, and pry out the seal.

Re: Transfer case leak

Hey Penguin, what a coincidence, a year later and i still have that leak, but just got the seal last week. You replied just in time. Few questions; u did take off the driveshaft right? Whats this washer you talk about? I too have the 249, are the front and rear seals the same?

I doubt that the front and rear seals are the same, I'm referring to the front.
Yes I took off the driveshaft, then the yoke nut (that sucker was on tight) then the yoke, and the "yoke seal washer"
see the bottom of this diagram:

between 36 and 33 on the bottom pic

I didn't get a chance to pick up the seal and yoke yet, maybe tomorrow....
