restoring cracks in paint jobDJBarney99 06-20-2004, 09:07 PM Hi... have a '74 MGB that has a good body, interior, and engine. Paint job (by previous owner) is ok but either too thick or incompatible with original and has cracking. Planning on doing a complete restoration in a few years but was wondering if I could make the "cracking" in the paint less noticable until then. Any help is appreciated. Markgase2000 06-23-2004, 10:13 AM Cracking is usually from too much top coat , becomes too hard and non flexible. Next time you paint it put less on. cams72k5 06-23-2004, 07:51 PM It could also be that they used a cheap body filler like bondo and now its crackin. Thats what is wrong with my friends Jeep. If their is a wesco paint supply by you they can lead you in the right direction to fix it. Markgase2000 06-24-2004, 10:21 AM Very true cams , Bondo has different consistancy than sheet metal so after a year or so it tends to drop, crack or crumble. Same goes with adding fiberglass to repair a portion the same way. Its too bad we cant use oxy acetaline to remove or repair damages like the old days. No filler repair rocks.
