6 disc changer error

I have a 99 4runner w/6 disc changer in dash and err3 code has come on. Sounds like a jam; only 4 discs in player. HELP!! I don't want to go back to the dealer. Any ideas???

Check the post from Mikedfrancis, the title is Security Code for 97 4runner. You might have the same problem. If you disconnected the battery, you might require a code to be input.

Re: 6 disc changer error

Thanks for the idea. I'm afraid I'm at a loss once again with my lovely Toyota. It's looking like I'll have to replace it.

That's why I prefer to install an aftermarket system instead of spending money for a factory system. Most of the time you can get a better aftermarket system for the same price and aftermarket radios are more flexible as far as adding things to it.

Re: 6 disc changer error

Any ideas on a new system then? I really liked the 6 disc in dash changer but it doesn't have to be that considering money will be an object.

I have an alpine head unit in the car with an alpine 6cd changer under my seat. The changer is fairly new(a year old), and it plays mp3's which is an advantage over factory systems. The alpine head unit is a little pricey, but the clarity is one of the best out there. Your looking at about $600 total for a good alpine head unit and 6cd changer, but it is well worth it. For a more economical choice, go with pioneer. They are very good, and less expensive. Just to let you know, my alpine head unit is about 3 years old, but other companies still haven't caught up to the clarity that the cd player puts out. With the way technology advances today, that says a lot about alpine.

Re: 6 disc changer error

Also, you can add on more stuff later, as you get more funds(ex. amp, subwoofer, equalizer, etc.). That's if you are into those things.

Re: 6 disc changer error

Thanks for the ideas. I actually stopped at an audio place and he suggested pioneer which is what I think I'm going to go with. Get the 12 disc changer in the trunk and it's only going to cost me $400 w/installation. Not to shabby. The Toyota dealer on the other hand, yeah, $1500 not so fun. So Pioneer it is! Thanks for all your help in this. I do appreciate it.
