it sounds as if the weather stripping is all crushed and worn out and the door isn't snuggly sealed anymore, causing it to bang around on the striker.
you can:
A: make sure the striker is tight and adjust in "in" a little. (too far will cause the door to be misaligned, and appear "sunken" beyond the body lines....)
B: if that works, then invest in a new weather stripping lit. they're available from GM, ($$$) or through JC Whitney. i'm sure other places carry them too..... maybe even Autozone...........
also.... open your door and grab the end that holds the latch. lift up and down. you may have worn hinges. that'll cause the door to knock and bang too...... usually, the door will "drop" when you open it if the hinges are worn, and will be a little difficult closing as well.......
